Birdsong Göteborg

A Moonleaf Earth project mapping open acoustic biodiversity data in central Göteborg.

About the method

Birdsong Göteborg is a bounded Moonleaf Earth method demonstrator for urban acoustic biodiversity in central Göteborg, not a citywide survey.

Visitors are seeing species-level BirdNET detections on a MapLibre map, plus the source clip, recordist, Creative Commons license, and recording date behind each point. The ingest pipeline pulls only CC0 / CC-BY Xeno-canto recordings whose coordinates fall inside a narrow area-of-interest bounding box over central Göteborg, runs BirdNET-Analyzer over each clip, and emits detections with their species, confidence, recording date, and full per-clip attribution.

The small AOI is the point. It keeps the data volume, coordinate scope, and attribution trail bounded enough for a public project to show its assumptions clearly. Because the source pool is limited to openly licensed audio, coverage is illustrative rather than exhaustive: this demonstrates a reproducible ingest → inference → map pipeline, not a claim to measure every bird in Göteborg.

Sources by license

4 detections across 2 source clips and 2 species, broken down by the Creative Commons license each clip ships under.
